The death of Bonnie Spencer in her 90th year occurred at High -Crest Nursing Home in Springhill on June 8th, 2018. A Cumberland County native, Bonnie was a long time resident of River Philip. She was predeceased by her husband of over 60 years, Fred in 2017, Bonnie is survived by a son Brent (Helen)Riverview NB,a daughter Laurel (Gil) Giles Moncton, two granddaughters Jana and Courtney Giles of Moncton, sisters in law Doris Smith of Dartmouth ,Marie Spencer of Shelburne and several nieces and nephews. In addition to Fred ,Bonnie was predeceased by her parents, William and Blanche Keiver, sister Beryl and brothers Carmen, Edward ,Vaughn and Hazen. A public school teacher by profession, Bonnie taught for many years in several rural Cumberland County schools . After her marriage ,she and Fred ran Spencers’ Store in River Philip for close to 40 years. It was at the store that Bonnie was able to enjoy interacting with her friends and neighbors on a daily basis. Bonnie's main interests revolved around her family and community. She was a long time member and treasurer of the River Philip United Church and River Philip UCW. An avid craftsperson Bonnie was known for her talent with handicrafts and could always be counted upon to support any Church or community fundraiser with her handicrafts and cooking. By the request of the deceased there will be no public visitation or service. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to W. Allen Funeral Home 60 Water St., Oxford, NS (902-447-2167) Those wishing to make a memorial in Bonnie's memory may do so to the River Philip United Church Cemetery or charity of choice.
