It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Gordon Ross Milner, age 76, of Brookdale, NS. Gordon passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Monday, April 30, 2018, at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre. Born in Amherst, NS, he was a son of the late Seward and Isabel (Spicer) Milner. Gordon had a full and busy life and enjoyed every moment. His first job was working at the Amherst Co-op in the feed department. In 1965 he worked for International Harvester in Saint John, NB. In 1969 he taught mechanics at the Agriculture College in Truro, NS. In 1970-71 he was the service rep for Allister Chalmers before returning home to work as a correctional officer, first year at Dorchester Institution in New Brunswick, then he transferred to the Springhill Institution until he retired after 34 1/4 years of service. Gordon and brother Ken also operated a dairy business from 1982-2007. Gordon was a man of many talents; he could fix anything. He was very meticulous and things were always in their place. He was an avid snowmobiler and always looked forward to lots of snow. He was also trail warden and spent many hours clearing trails and building bridges for snowmobilers and ATV's. He loved a good time, was a member of the Knights of Pythias, and donated round bales to farms out west during the drought. After Gordon and his wife Karen retired from the prison, they did some traveling, spent time at their place in Tidnish, enjoyed spending time with their children and grandchildren. They enjoyed snowmobiling, four wheeling, and loved each other unconditionally. He is survived by his wife Karen Smith Milner, his children Mark (Jeannie) Milner, Anne (Bruce) McNeil, and Kathy (Stephen) Maltby; their mother Marjorie Milner; grandchildren Mitchell, Christopher, Lauren, Alannah, Brent; great grandchildren, Finnley, Penelope and Lincoln; step children Erin (John) Bugley, Matthew (Nichole) Bugley; step-grandsons Damien and Eli; brothers Kenneth (Judy) Milner, James (Judy) Milner, Ralph (Lynn) Milner and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by infant son John and infant granddaughter Marlee Maltby. Arrangements have been entrusted to Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St., Amherst, NS (902-667-8777) where visiting hours took place on Thursday, May 3, 2018, from 6 - 9 pm.
