It is with great sadness that the family of Geraldine “Gerry” Firth Christensen, age 85, of Amherst NS announce her sudden passing on January 4, 2019 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Upper Nappan, NS. Born in Shinimicas, NS, on November 24, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Ivan and Mildred (Smith) Goodwin. In Gerry’s younger years she taught school in Lorneville. She was also a telephone operator. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Y’s mennettes, Dart League, Friendly Dozen (card club), Sunrise Campers, where she and her husband spent the summers camping all over the Maritimes. Her passions were tole painting and spending time at the cottage at Amherst Shore. She is survived by her one Daughter Kim (Perry) Morrison, Brookdale, Sons, Brian (Deborah) Everette, Washington, Steven (Dianna) of Densmore Mills, NS; 9 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren; sisters Joyce Fowler and Peggy (David) Beaton; brother in law, Kenneth (Mary Lou), Nepean, ON; nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents, Gerry was predeceased by her husband William (Bill) Christensen; her daughter Carla Diane Phillips; and sister Dorothy Goodwin. A celebration of Gerry’s life will be held on Saturday, January 26, 2019, from 2 – 4 pm at 634 Willow St. Ext, Brookdale, NS. Following her wishes there will be no visitation or funeral service. A graveside service will be held in the Palmerston Cemetery, Pugwash in the spring. Arrangements are under the care & direction of Campbell’s Funeral Home, Amherst 902-667-9906. Donations in Gerry’s memory may be made to the Lillian Allbon Animal Shelter or to the charity of your choice.
