BOYD, Elsie Parrsboro After a long and fruitful life, Elsie (Glenwright) Boyd, 95, passed away on Saturday, December 21, 2019 in Amherst. Elsie was born in Framingham, Massachusetts on August 25, 1924 to the late James and Dorothy (Ripley) Glenwright. She spent her young life in the River Hebert area and, as did most of her generation, joined the war effort in 1943 when she enlisted in the Canadian Women’s Army Corps. She served in Halifax and Oakville, Ontario. She was discharged in 1946. She married Jack B. Boyd on June 1, 1946. They eventually settled in Parrsboro where they made a life and raised a family. Elsie was very involved in the Trinity United Church with the fellowship and fundraising of the United Church Women. She also was a leader for Explorers and CGIT. She served as the treasurer for the church for more than twenty years. Elsie was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #45, Parrsboro. She is survived by two sons, Jack (Esther) and Fred, all of Parrsboro; a daughter, Susan Greene (Craig), Amherst. Also, survived by two granddaughters, Jillian Webber (Brian), Halifax, Dr. Jacqueline Boyd (Dr. Paul Bajor), Airdrie, Alberta; a grandson, Jarrett Greene, Amherst; two great-grandchildren, Liam and Julia Bajor. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Jack; sisters, Dorothy, Vivien and Shirley; brothers, James and Mitchell. A veterans tribute and funeral service will be held January 11, 2020 at 2 p.m. at Smith’s Funeral Home in Parrsboro. Arrangements entrusted to Smith’s Funeral Home, Parrsboro.
