Edward Donald Pettis

PETTIS, Edward Donald It is with heavy hearts that the family of Edward Donald Pettis, age 84 of Amherst, announce his passing on Monday, January 6, 2020 at Gables Lodge. Born in Amherst, he was a son of the late Rexford and Evelyn (Hughes) Pettis. Ed spent more than 26 years in Canadian Armed Forces retiring and later working for Michelin Tire, in Granton NS for 12 years. After his second retirement he and his wife moved back to Amherst where they enjoyed playing cards, fishing, bowling and playing darts. They later took up positions as Directors on the Board of Directors for the NS 55+ Seniors Games. Ed and his wife played many times in the Canada Senior Games for Team NS, winning many medals. Ed was member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #10 for 45 years, holding many offices. He was also a past member of the RCAF club in Amherst a past member of the Board of Directors for the Cumberland County Museum, he was also a volunteer at the Cumberland Regional Hospital. He is survived by his son, Brian, of Edmonton AB; three daughters, Elizabeth (Danny) Adams, Torbrook, NS, Karen Falle (Steve Ferguson), Belleville, ON and Mary (Jim) Brown, Trenton, NS. Also surviving are sister, Ina Bowser of Amherst; eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Ed was predeceased by his wife, the former Alice Cathryn Stiles in 2019; sister, Kathryn and her Husband Al Wry. A Celebration of Eddie and Cathy’s Lives will be held on Friday, January 10, 2020 between the hours of 1 – 4 p.m. with the Royal Canadian Legion Tribute Service at 1 p.m. all held at Campbell’s Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst (902) 667-9906. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Ed’s memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Cumberland Regional Health Care Foundation.
