Denton Hubert Laurie Brown
Denton Hubert Laurie Brown It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Denton Hubert Laurie Brown, 71, of Southampton, NS on Monday, January 22, 2018 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre with his children and sister and brother in law by his side. Denton was the eldest son of the late Lemert and Melvina (Pugsley) Brown. Denton was a very hard worker all his life. From a young age, he had the duty of lighting the wood stove in the school house in South Brook before classes began. As years went by he did logging, had his own dump truck, and his last employment before retiring was with the Department of Transportation for twenty years; driving snow plow, which he loved, in winter and crewman in the summer. He also harvested blueberries, had his own huge vegetable garden and in his spare time going to dances on Saturday nights with Mom. Dad put up a brave fight with COPD for several years and right to the end always kept hope that there were still better days ahead. He leaves behind to mourn, his wife of almost fifty years, Linda (Slack); daughter Margaret (Tim Chapman), son Jamie (Amanda) Brown; grandchildren Ashley (Brian) Longshaw, Avery LeBlanc (Adam Rideout), Kennedy, Brett, Jerry and Violet Brown; sister Helen Smiley (Ivan Hachey); brother Robert (Linda) Brown; niece Michelle Smiley; nephew Brian (Melanie) Smiley; two great nephews; three aunts Joan (Bruce) Crowe, Mary Anne Fickes and Dorothy Harrison; several cousins. He was predeceased by in laws Arthur and Berdeana Slack of Oxford Junction, NS. Arrangements are under the care and supervision of the A H Brown Funeral Home, 5 McFarlane Street, Springhill, (902 597 2361). In keeping with Denton's request, his remains will be cremated. A private graveside service will be held in the spring at the Brown Cemetery in South Brook. Donations in Denton's memory may be made to the Lung Association, or the Animal Shelter of your choice. Thank you to Dr. Rondeau and Julie for all the wonderful care you gave Denton and his family.
