Alice Cathryn Pettis

PETTIS, Alice Cathryn It is with heavy hearts that the family of Alice Cathryn Pettis age 77 of Amherst announce her passing on Thursday August 15, 2019, at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre in Amherst surrounded by her three daughters and granddaughter, Candace. Born in Amherst, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Hilda (Crossman) Stiles. Cathy spent more than 26 years as an armed forces wife travelling with her husband. After his retirement from the forces they moved to Pictou County for 12 years. After his second retirement they moved home to Amherst, where Cathy enjoyed bowling, playing cards, darts and she loved the Casino! She also volunteered at numerous local churches and at the hospital in 3 different positions. She is survived her loving husband, Edward of 59 years; son Brian, Edmonton AB; three daughters, Elizabeth (Danny) Adams, Torbrook West NS, Karen Falle (Steve Ferguson), Belleville ON, and Mary (Jim) Brown, Trenton NS; 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; brothers, Durline (June) Stiles, David (Lillian) Stiles; one sister, Gloria (Lenny) Roberts, Moncton NB; as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Cathy was predeceased by her sisters, Margaret Rose Smith, Debbie Wilson and Betty Lou Frost. Following Cathy’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A graveside service will take place at the Amherst Cemetery upon the passing of her husband. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Cathy’s memory may be made to the L.A. Animal Shelter.
