PUGWASH, N.S. – Sunset Community will be gathering in its newly accessible Patchwork Garden on Sept. 24 at 2 p.m. to celebrate Continuing Care Month.
During the celebration there will be refreshments, the beauty of the gardens and the creativity of Sunset’s
people; which will be highlighted in our first Scarecrow building competition.
“Our Patchwork Garden would not be possible without the dedication of employees and residents who volunteer their time and efforts in the garden,” executive director Julie Matheson said in a news release. “Our residents truly enjoy the relaxing act of gardening and we have all been enjoying the fruits of our labour. Whether it has been eating fresh veggies out of the garden, watering the plants or going to our resident kitchen areas and cooking things like Squash soup, beet greens, or kale chips, it has been a rewarding process for all! We have been blessed with the support we have received, and with the financial support of the Ladies’ Auxiliary our garden became accessible for all this summer.”
This event is part of the celebrations being held across the province to recognize the continuing care sector and the contributions of its employees and what that means for the Nova Scotians who require their support. Continuing Care programs and services help people to maximize their independence, promote their health and well-being, sustain or enhance their quality of life, and support families to meet the ongoing care needs of their loved ones.
Continuing Care Month is celebrated each year in September. The goal of the annual campaign is to recognize the contributions of the thousands of Nova Scotians who work in continuing care in a variety of practice settings across the province, such as nursing homes, home care organizations, residential care facilities and adult residential centres/regional rehabilitation centres.
The theme, Continuing Care: Your Home, Our Passion, reflects the aim of continuing care services to help people to live well in the place they can call home. It also reinforces the commitment and compassion of the many people who have chosen this caring field of employment.
The campaign is also about profiling the advances being made in Nova Scotia’s continuing care sector to improve quality of life and quality of care for the Nova Scotians who rely on these important services.
