SPRINGHILL, N.S. – A 36-year-old man from Springhill was fined $2,422.50 after police clocked him speeding at 180 km/h on Highway 104, near the Exit 5 Springhill connector.

The incident occurred just before 3 p.m. on Nov. 28.

The driver attempted to evade RCMP as there was dense fog in the area.

His vehicle was located after he lost control and struck a guardrail at Exit 5.

The man fled on foot but was arrested a short time later without incident.

His vehicle was seized and he will appear in Amherst Provincial Court on Feb. 4 to face the following five charges:

– Flight from Police

– Driving Motor Vehicle While Privilege of Obtaining License is Revoked

– Driving Motor Vehicle Without Motor Vehicle Liability Policy

– Stunting

– Failing to Drive Motor Vehicle in Careful and Prudent Manner

The Nova Scotia RCMP remind the public that speed is one of the major causes of serious injury and fatal collisions on our roads.

If you see someone driving unsafely, you can report it by calling RCMP at 800-803-RCMP (7267) or 911.
