SYDNEY, N.S. — SYDNEY, N.S. — A process aimed at regulating signage within the Cape Breton Regional Municipality is underway.
Council has agreed to hold a workshop in January to come up with a collective vision on what the municipality’s sign landscape should look like, while CBRM staff plan to engage the business community and local sign companies for their take on the issue.
Coun. Jim MacLeod made headlines earlier this year and his campaigning led to a ban on the placing of signs on utility poles that sit on CBRM property. And, shortly after council gave its approval to remove such signs, the veteran councillor was seen on a ladder literally tearing down unauthorized signs in early August.
Once council has come up with a consensus position on the issue and staff has consulted with the business community, the public participation process will begin. Staff intends to present a refined draft for discussion by the end of the first quarter of 2020.
