AMHERST, N.S. — Dwayne Ripley and a group of volunteers are out and about today cleaning up the town.
Ripley said there have been several great events already held in the community, including the Taylor Ford cleanup challenge on Robert Angus Drive as well as another one organized by Emmerson Packaging in the industrial park.
He wanted to do something more.
“I thought I would add on and go a step farther to try to clean up every street and trail as well. I have two major goals in doing this: motivate the younger generation to take pride in our town and to create accountability and responsibility for our actions,” Ripley said.
When people sign up for this event, Ripley is asking them to pick a street. He then will “tag” the individual or organization on the list of streets in Amherst.
“In doing this, I feel like it creates a sense of responsibility to actually get out and take part. I would also like to say that this is by no means a competition, and we should all take part in every event if you have the means to do so. No amount of cleaning is too much, plus it is a great way to get out as a family and enjoy the warmer weather,” he said.
Ripley is hoping this will be an annual event.
The event begins at noon at the Robb Complex.
It’s also part of the Great Nova Scotia Pick-Me-Up.
