Health Canada issues recall on garage heaters

Over 68,000 affected units sold between 2014 and 2019

ST. JOHN'S, N.L. —

The St. John’s Regional Fire Department issued a press release Friday warning of a recall on several popular brands of portable garage heaters.

Health Canada has recalled the blue Mastercraft, Profusion Heat, Prestige and Matrix 4,800W 240V garage heaters. Approximately 68,000 units of the affected products were sold in Canada between July 2014 and April 2019.

To identify if your heater is affected, locate the model number and manufacturing date on the label affixed to the rear of the device.

Affect models include:

  • Mastercraft: Blue, HA22-48M and HA22-48M1, Manufacture July 2014-April 2019
  • Profusion Heat, Prestige, Matrix: Red, HA22-48M, Manufactured June 2017 or earlier

The heaters, made by H.E. Industrial Ltd., can overheat, posting a burn and fire hazard. To date of the 10 reported cases of the device overheating, three have resulted in the product catching fire and damaging property.

Health Canada recommends consumers should immediately stop using the recalled product and return it to the place of purchase for store credit or to obtain a replacement unit. Proof of purchase is not required.
