PUGWASH, N.S. — The Pugwash Ground Search and Rescue Association will be holding a special meeting and ceremony at their building on Tuesday to recognize its 40th anniversary.
The celebration begins at 7 p.m. at the association’s building on King Street.
There will be provincial and possibly national officials present to give long service awards to the founding members Jim Kaluza, Jim Wills, Albert Chapman, and Pansy Pye on behalf of her husband, the late Jim Pye.
There has seldom been an event, festival or a celebration of any kind in the village and area that this team hasn’t dedicated their time to, including erecting the village Christmas tree, conducting traffic and safety patrols and taking part in planned evacuations and more.
In addition to all the above, the association’s members undertake hours of professional training sessions and participate in searches with both good and tragic outcomes. Their fundraising efforts over 40 years have ensured they have had all the essential equipment needed to best serve the community and keep it safe.
The Sunset Community is planning to present them with a certificate of appreciation from the clients, staff and the board of directors for everything the organization has done for it.
