It’s hard to believe November is here. The weather may be getting colder, but we want to encourage you to still get out and get active, especially after having maybe too many treats for Halloween.

And what a great Halloween it was, with so many great events for all ages to enjoy from Spirt Walks to Zombie Walks, what an amazing community we have!

A great way to stay active, is to get walking. Stop by the Amherst Stadium, where the walking track is open Monday to Fridays from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sundays from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The stadium is a great place to get in your walk, out of the brisk November weather, and on those days where the sun is shining, don’t forget about our trails.

Or why not get out for a skate? Our adult and senior skates are on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m.; Parent and Tots Skating Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.; and we have open skates and after-school skating available.

Need a helmet? We have you covered. We have plenty available for lending if you need.

Take a peek at our Community Calendar at amherst.ca for a full stadium schedule.

Another way to stay active and connected is to attend all of the great events and activities put on by our many partners and neighbours throughout the community. Our community calendar and our weekly skinny are updated regularly to keep you informed on what your community is offering.

Would you like a copy of our Weekly Skinny emailed to you every week? No problem! We like to share. If this is something you would like to receive, please contact [email protected] and we will make sure you are informed. We also want to hear about your event.

On Nov.10 there will be a mural unveiling at 4 p.m. at Amherst town hall, as well as our annual Remembrance Day ceremony will be held on Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. This is a very special weekend to honour our veterans.

We hope you are enjoying the beautiful banners that were co-ordinated by the Amherst Legion. What a great way to celebrate and honour our veterans.

And what is next … well, Christmas will be here before you know it and the Recreation Department is so excited to kick off Christmas the weekend of Nov. 16 to 18, with our Christmas Light up, Christmas Parade and the Tree for Boston sendoff. Be sure to join us as we kick off this wonderful season. Stay tuned to our Facebook page and website for a full schedule of Christmas events and activities.
