NEW GLASGOW N.S. – The Pictou County Parkinson SuperWalk was once again a success, this year raising more than $11,000.
About 60 people took part in the event, which was held last Saturday after being postponed a week because of the post-tropical storm Dorian the previous week.
This year was extra special for the group because local chapter leader Josephine Jollymore was announced as this year’s winner of the Parkinson SuperWalk National Hero Contest. The contest celebrates ‘Everyday Heroes’ whose extraordinary hope fuels SuperWalk in communities across Canada. The winner is chosen from nominations from across the country.
Jollymore has been leading the local chapter and support group since 2003, and has carried on in that role despite losing her husband, who was living with Parkinson’s, in 2005.
The local chapter played an important role in the SuperWalk campaign and donations continue to come in. The goal for Atlantic Canada was a combined total of $180,000.
