BRIDGETOWN, N.S. — The beginning of summer. It’s sure to translate in lots of calls for the police. Some strange calls. Some ordinary calls.
From June 17 to 22 that was indeed the case. There was the ‘full moon’ in Bridgetown, the lady mowing grass ‘naked,’ the guy who got pushed down the stairs, and the parade in Lawrencetown and it wasn’t even Exhibition week. Drone strike in Wilmot?
Here are some highlights:
June 17, 2019
WIMOT – Vehicle vs UFO? Nope it was actually a drone that hit a vehicle. The owner of the drone then blamed the man who owned the vehicle, for damaging his drone. Obviously, the drone was flying way to close to traffic. New rules and regulations have come out with Transport Canada on RPAS (Remotely Piloted Aircraft System) and for more info, please see link: https://www.tc.gc.ca/en/services/aviation/drone-safety/report-drone-incident.html
LAWRENCETOWN – What do you get when a llama, goat, and a cow are walking down the road? A visit from the Department of Agriculture and the RCMP! With the help of the Lawrencetown Fire Department, the RCMP officers were able to get five llamas, one cow, five sheep, a pig, and two goats into the barn -- but no partridge in a pear tree! Animals were seized and investigation is ongoing.
MIDDLETON – A caller reported that as he was testing out his new bike on Gates Avenue, he was assaulted. The suspect called out his name, chased him down and punched him once in the side of the head… another reason why cyclists should wear helmets! Unknown who the male was at this time.

WILMOT – RCMP responded to a residence after reports of a male driving by several nights in a row, yelling at caller, and honking horn. The officer identified the new ‘Town Crier’ and spoke with her and advised this was not the best mode of communication!
MIDDLETON – Bumper cars were always fun as kid but not in expensive vehicles! A caller reported that while stopped to make a turn, a car two cars back hit the car behind her, causing the car behind her to hit hers. Luckily no one was injured but there was damage to the vehicles.
MIDDLETON – Police received a report of a fight in progress. Arguing and shirts being ripped off! Officers made a patrol and found three youth who were involved and encouraged to quickly go home.
June 19, 2019
WILMOT – RCMP responded to a traffic hazard call. A skateboarder and bicycle were in the middle of the road holding up traffic. When cars passed the two males, the males waved but only with one finger! The officer responded but found them walking on the side of the road. The officer advised them for their own safety, to be aware of busy traffic on that highway.
TORBROOK – Reports of a naked lawn mower! The officer attended the residence and spoke to the alleged nudist who was wearing a bathrobe. She was quick to open up her bathrobe to show the officer that she was not naked but just wearing a swim suit…a very small one.
BRICKTON – ATV accident. The driver admitted to “goofing off” which caused the ATV accident. He was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. A hard lesson learned! (Note that we've since learned those injuries weren't so minor -- broken bones were involved, and lascerations all combined to equal nine days in hospital in Halifax.)

WILMOT – A caller reported a neighbour tried to come into their home when the door was answered. The neighbour attempted to reach for the caller’s throat so the caller threw the neighbour down the stairs. When the neighbour got up, he threw garbage at the caller. The RCMP officer spoke to both parties and determined the cause of the disagreement – 1 gram of marijuana. Both parties told to stay away from each other.
TORBROOK – Police received reports of a young person on a white and green motor bike driving too fast along the side of the road causing rocks to spray. The caller was concerned for kids playing outside. Patrols made but bike was not found…this time.
BRIDGETOWN – Ok people! We know we have had some warm weather but we all need to keep our clothes on! Reports of a couple being “mooned.” The “mooner” was found and advised to keep his full moon under his pants!

SPRINGFIELD – Police received reports of a lost ram! So the caller reports he was supposed to sell sheep to the buyer. The buyer showed up to look at the sheep and agreed to buy them but the seller did not like the price he offered. So both parties left and when the seller returned to the yard 30 minutes later, the ram was gone! The buyer denied to have taken any sheep nor the ram! RCMP are on the look out for one missing ram.
MOUNT HANLEY – Police received reports of a male driving a white Ford half ton truck, dumping liquid from large white container on property. When confronted by the caller, the male stated it was just muddy water but caller stated it smelled like oil. The incident was reported to the Department of Environment and investigation remains open.
June 22, 2019
NICTAUX FALLS – A caller reported garbage being burned at a nearby residence. The officer made a patrol and located the owner of the residence where he was reminded of the by laws preventing the open burning of garbage. The home owner quickly put out the fire and assured the officers it would not happen again.
NICTAUX – A group of people were kayaking on Nictaux River when one of the group fell out of the boat into the rapids. RCMP attended the location but luckily the male was able to get to the shore and was treated by EHS.
MIDDLETON – While on patrol, the officer saw a vehicle driving with no tail lights. I guess the driver forgot to put them on…tends to happen when you are impaired! The driver was arrested and failed breath samples. He will be appearing in court in July.
MOUNTIE MEMO: With students now being done school, celebrations begin. The RCMP would like to remind if caught illegally with liquor or under the age of 19, the fine is $467.50 and an expensive way to begin your summer.
