MILLBROOK, N.S. — The Colchester East Hants Health Centre remains under lockdown as police continue to search for one of the suspects involved in a shooting in Millbrook Tuesday afternoon.
More than a half dozen RCMP officers responded when police were called to the scene around 3:12 p.m. after a disturbance was reported at 753 Truro Heights Rd. Some officers could be seen armed with their carbides and a section of the road on each side of the residence was shut down for approximately one hour.
One man was arrested after shots were fired but police are searching for a second suspect who fled on foot. A police dog was also called in to assist with the search.
One person was injured and taken to the Truro hospital. Some local residents who were watching the scene unfold from across the road said the occupant of the house was not a Millbrook resident.
The hospital was placed under lockdown for a short period after the shooting victim was brought in. Police then had the lockdown put in place again around 7:45 p.m. because the second suspect was still at large.
The lockdown was recommended by local police services as a safety measure. During the lockdown the hospital’s main entrance and emergency department entrance are open to patients and their caregivers, and hospital staff but police and hospital security staff monitor the entrances. Services and programs are available to patients and the public, but visitors are not permitted at the hospital during the lockdown.
