Great Canadian Bible Study at Wentworth United Baptist Church

Good morning everyone and I hope everyone is keeping well, through this long, cold winter.

We try to stay in the house as much as possible, as we are afraid of falling on the ice. It’s hard to believe that when we were young folks, we could hardly wait for the snow and ice to come, so we, along with the neighbourhood children could go coasting and skating.

When our children were at home we bought two snowmobiles and we all enjoyed snowmobiling. It used to be quite a sport around Williamsdale and Collingwood.

Wendell’s nephew, John Reid of Hansford, accompanied by his grandson, visited with us one day last week.

A goodly number of ladies attended the Great Canadian Bible Study, which was held recently in the basement of the Wentworth United Baptist Church. The very capable leader of the study was Linda Scott of Springhill.

A delicious “pot luck” dinner was held at the noon hour.

I was sorry to have to miss the study, because of other commitments.

I was very surprised, one day last week, when I answered the phone, to hear the former Janie Rushton’s voice. We had lots of fun, catching up on the family news. Janie, Carolyn, David and Michael lived with their parents, Garnet and Florence Rushton, about half a mile from us when she was growing up and I haven’t had the pleasure of speaking with her for several years. We had lots of new to catch up on.

Wendell and Margaret Reid were with the Oxford and Area Men’s Group who sang at the Centennial Villa in Amherst one day last week.

Jerry Smith, Cassie Robinson and their son Levi, of Oxford were visiting with grandparents Mervyn and Mary Esther Smith of Millvale recently.

Wayne and Karma Reid of Pugwash visited with us one afternoon last week. Wayne and Karma had brought along a delicious deep dish turkey Pie for supper and it was really good.

The Millvale United Baptist Church, held their annual business meeting at the home of Wendell and Margaret Reid and Wendy Reid on Thursday evening, Jan. 17, with a good number in attendance.

After the meeting everyone enjoyed a delicious lunch and a time of fellowship. Those who attended the meeting were Rev. James Smith, Bruce and Lorna Stewart, Elizabeth and John Stewart, John and Vionetta Chouinard, Linda and Alvord Stewart, Wendell and Margaret Reid and Wendy Reid.

Our church service was cancelled on Sunday, Jan. 20, due to the severe winter storm. Our pastor, Rev. James Smith has a four-point charge so he has lots of travelling to do each Sunday.

The Oxford Senior’s Club held a very successful supper at the senior’s centre, last Wednesday, Jan. 16. The supper was delicious, with a very good selection of various casseroles, rolls, pies and various desserts.

Victor MacCormack accompanied the sing-a-long, on the piano. It was a time of good friends, good food, good fellowship!
