GLACE BAY, N.S. — A 13-year-old Glace Bay boy is facing charges after threatening messages about his school were posted on a social media site.

Cape Breton Regional Police were alerted Tuesday by school board officials that several parents had reported their children received Snapchat messages.

The message warned them not to attend Oceanview Education Centre on Wednesday and that those who didn’t receive messages, could be harmed.

The message advised further that the message was a joke.

After identifying the sending address, officers were able to verify that an OVEC student lived at that address.

Further investigation confirmed the student was responsible for the Snapchat messages and that he had no intent of causing harm to anyone at the school.

The youth is expected to be charged with mischief.
