The Amherst Recreation Family First Summer Programming is midway into the schedule with many families participating in activities, getting out to enjoy some fresh air and daily activity! Weekly events include summer multisport, trail walks, active family fun and youth tennis. Our summer brochure is out and available. Make sure you grab a copy or follow us on Facebook or at Amherst.ca to keep up to date with upcoming events all summer long.

Youth intro to tennis lessons are back this year with over 50 participants being active, learning some new skills, and enjoying our new tennis courts at Lions Park.

If this is of interest to you, it is not to late to register. We have lesson plans designed for children aged 6-8, 9-12, and 13-16 running until Aug. 22.

To register or for more information call 902-694-2161, or email [email protected].

Our Summer Multisport activity is new to the program giving youth a free, indoor option to try different sports each week.

Meet the members of the ‘A team at the YMCA at 1:30 p.m. after registering and you are all set. To register, email [email protected]. We look forward to seeing everyone there.

Our Active Family Fun evening is happening tonight with an obstacle course and games set up in the field. Happening from 6 to 7:30p.m., come to Dickey Park to have some family friendly fun. Next week, on July 31, we will have Circus night, and on Aug. 7 there will be a family picnic at 5:30 p.m. with Maggie’s Place, you do not want to miss it! Don’t forget your bathing suit… Bubble Blitz will be set up by the splash pad during the Family Picnic night!

A free screening of Iron Man 3 will be set up on July 25 in Victoria Square weather permitting. The movie will begin at dusk and it is recommended that you bring your own chair or blanket to sit on and get comfy to enjoy the film. There will also be popcorn so be sure to be there early as supplies are limited. The theme of the evening is Christmas in July so join us before for a snow dance and other wintery fun!

Do not forget to take advantage of our many parks and facilities that are available for the public this summer. The splash pad at Dickey Park is an amazing resource to use in the summer as a great way to cool down in the heat. The off the leash dog park is also located at Dickey Park, just remember to clean up after your pets and put litter in its place. The green team work exceptionally hard to keep our community clean, green and tidy so it is important to respect their hard work when using our parks and facilities.

For booking for Robb Complex or any one of our parks, contact our administration office at 902-667-6500. You can also send an email to [email protected] We are now taking ice rentals for the Amherst Stadium as skating season is just around the corner. Ice will be installed and ready for use the end of August.
