RIVER HEBERT, N.S. – Bus service will be available for pre-primary children attending River Hebert District School this fall.
“Sites receiving busing this September are in areas where all eligible pre-primary children in a class could be accommodated on existing buses and in some cases, where participation was low,” a press release from the Nova Scotia Department of Education and Early Childhood Development said.
River Hebert is among 56 pre-primary sites the province is providing bus service to this September. The province says the remaining pre-primary sites will receive bussing in 2020 when pre-primary is available to all children across the province.
Pre-primary is currently available at 201 sites across the province.
Before and After Program
The province is also expanding the Nova Scotia Before and After program to 40 sites this fall, including Oxford Regional Education Centre and Cyrus Eaton Elementary School in Pugwash.
The Nova Scotia Before and After Program is open to all children from pre-primary to Grade 6.
“Ensuring all Nova Scotians have opportunities to enjoy an active lifestyle is a government priority,” Mark Furey, Attorney General and Minister of Justice, said in a press release. “Daily physical activity is proven to help in the classroom. With the expansion, more of our children and families can take advantage of this great program.”
The physical activity-based program is delivered by approved, regulated childcare or recreation providers, and is aligned with the province’s Let’s Get Moving Nova Scotia action plan.
“Families told us that before and after programming and transportation would make it easier for them to access pre-primary,” Zach Churchill, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development, said in a press release. “Removing these barriers will help make sure families can access this important early learning opportunity.”
