Leamington – It’s not an easy day on the Rodney Road outside Springhill, N.S.

Right in front of the Springhill water treatment plant the road is cut-off by a collapse where the Leamington Brook runs through a culvert underneath the road. Besides motorists looking to enjoy a country drive or the hardworking folk who use the access road at the treatment plant to get to their maple sugar camps, all terrain vehicle enthusiasts have to find other means of accessing the trail system that crosses the road here and take them to and from Springhill.

It’s an inconvenient situation at an equally inconvenient time, a spokesperson with the Nova Scotia Dept. of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal says.

“The culvert is being assessed now as we look at possible repair options in consultation with the Department of Environment,” Marla MacInnis said. “Given the high-water levels and the restrictions associated with working near a stream this time of year, we don’t currently have a timeline to share. In the meantime, the road has been closed and a detour is in place for local traffic.”
