AMHERST, N.S. – Dayle’s Grand Market was ground zero for the Zombie apocalypse on Oct. 26 in Amherst.

The Zombies fanned out to infect businesses throughout the downtown core, until, finally, they were brought under control by citizens who refused to go down without a fight.

When calm was restored, the Zombies and the good citizens of Amherst joined together in harmony to celebrate the fact they raised $765, along with non-perishable items, for the Amherst Food Bank.

Downtown businesses participated in the Zombie Spirit Walk offering specials such as witches brew, adult spirit drinks, taste testers, and snacks, which were served with live music, palm readings and magic tricks.

“A special Zombie thanks goes out to the Cormier family of Dayle’s for hosting us and letting us base our food drive out of their location,” said Zombie apocalypse leader Daren White. “To all of the businesses who donated food, and to the numerous vehicles and spectators who stopped us to donate food or money, thank you.”

White also thanked the Zombies “who took of their time to apply makeup, destroy clothing, and drag that leg around town in the name of helping the local food bank.”
