Wind and rain associated with a fall storm have already begun hitting Cumberland County and resulting in power outages.
Cumberand County’s EMO co-ordinator Mike Johnson said the power is out in an area from around Fraserville and Allenville to Advocate Harbour along the Fundy shore. It’s expected to be back on some time this afternoon.
The storm has some thinking back to a month ago when hurricane Dorian caused widespread damage in the area, knocking power out in some areas for up to a week.
“This one won’t be as bad as Dorian, but it will still be a powerful fall storm,” Johnson said. “Any power outages we have will be for a few hours, not days.”
Johnson said while many trees have lost their leaves, their integrity may be weak from Dorian and could be compromised by winds that could reach 70 to 80 km/h. For that reason, he said, residents need to be prepared for power outages.
“It’s the same for every storm. Be prepared in the event of a power outages and have things like batteries, battery-powered radios and food to get you through the worst,” he said.
This storm may only be the first of what could be a stormy period. He said long-range forecasts are looking at another storm system moving through the area, perhaps next Wednesday.
