PUGWASH, N.S. – A 52-year-old Wallace man is facing a series of firearms charges after he allegedy fired a handgun at a deer hunter in the Middleboro area on Oct. 27.
The hunter heard a popping sound and when he looked in the direction of the noise, saw a man pointing a handgun and firing several shots at him.
He did not realize he was on private property at the time the shots were fired at him. The shooter got into a truck and drove away. The hunter, who was not injured, called 911 and provided a description of the truck to police.
RCMP responded and provided containment around the residence. Contact was made with the suspect by phone and the man walked out of his home and was arrested without incident.
The home was then searched and police found a shotgun, a rifle, a pistol and a carbine as well as ammunition.
Some firearms were not properly stored and as a result all the firearms were seized from the residence.
The man is charged with four counts of careless use of a firearm and single counts of discharging a firearm while being reckless, pointing a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, carrying a concealed weapon and possessing a firearm in a motor vehicle.
The man was released from custody on conditions and will return to provincial court in Amherst on Dec. 17.
The investigation is continuing.
