DORCHESTER, N.B. - RCMP have recaptured an inmate who escaped from the Dorchester minimum security institution.
RCMP said in a news release Thursday evening that Steven Bugden had been taken into custody between Dorchester and Sackville, N.B.
Officials say during the 10 p.m. headcount Feb. 7, staff members at Dorchester Penitentiary, discovered that Steven Bugden was not accounted for.
The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) immediately contacted the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and a warrant for his arrest has been issued.
The facility was searched by correctional officers, while RCMP, with the assistance of a police dog, searched the surrounding area, but Bugden was not located.
Bugden is 45 years old, measures 165 cm, five-foot-five-inches in height and weighs 85 kg (188 pounds). He has a fair complexion, with blue eyes and blond hair. He is currently serving an indeterminate sentence for second-degree murder.
CSC says it will investigate the circumstances of this incident and is working with the police to locate the offender as quickly as possible.
