AMHERST, N.S. — A pair of women who spent Christmas in jail following a fatal fire in Amherst Dec. 21 have been released from custody on undertakings.
Bryanna Ackles, 25, of Amherst and 30-year-old Krystal Robertson of Moncton made brief appearances in Amherst provincial court on Thursday.
Ackles was released on a number of conditions and will return for election and plea on Jan. 27 at 9:30 a.m. while Robertson was also released on several conditions and will come back to court for election and plea on Feb. 24 at 9:30 a.m.
Both are charged with possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking, breaking and entering into the East Pleasant Street home, possessing equipment that could be used for the purpose of breaking and entering and recklessly causing damage to a building by fire.
Ackles is also charged with dangerous driving and three counts of breaking the conditions of recognizance orders to refrain from possessing controlled substances, observing a curfew and keeping the peace and being of good behaviour as ordered by the court.
Amherst Police did not name the deceased, but the Amherst News learned it was 26-year-old Stephen Nagle of Moncton.
