PARRSBORO, N.S. – Just wrapping up its 53rd year, the Nova Scotia Gem and Mineral show and Sale at the Parrsboro Lions Recreation Centre is more popular than ever.
“Last year we drove in and could park anywhere. This year we had to drive around for a while to find a parking spot,” said Sandy McInnis, co-owner of Earth Goddess jewelry store in Halifax.
This is the second year in a row McInnis and her business partner Shannon Macgregor have traveled to the gem and mineral show.
“We come down and get all the stones and crystals we can’t order from our main supplier.” said McInnis. “They’re very unique. The selection here is amazing. You can’t find another show like this in the Maritimes.”
Macgregor says buying stones and crystals in Parrsboro is much better than buying online.
“We like to get a lot of the large stones and crystals here because it’s so hard for us to get them shipped in, and it can cost a fortune to ship those,” said Macgregor. “And it’s so nice to be able to see it in your hand because you can’t do that when you order them, so we’ll get ones we think are really special.”
She says the gems and minerals they find at the show are especially brilliant.
“We always have quartz points but the ones here, the clusters, are incredible, and the peacock ore, the colour is nicer than any we’ve ordered in. It’s incredible.”
