SPRINGHILL, N.S. – Contraband, including tobacco, marijuana and other drugs were seized on the perimeter of the Springhill Institution.
The packages containing contraband and unauthorized items were found by staff outside the medium-security federal institution.
The contraband and unauthorized items seized included 279.35 grams of tobacco, 52.41 grams of marijuana, 181.11 grams of THC and 42.90 grams of shatter (a marijuana/cannabis concentrate).
The total estimated institutional value of this seizure is $52,900.
Police have been notified and the institution is investigating.
The Correctional Service of Canada uses a number of tools to prevent drugs from entering its institutions. These tools include ion scanners and drug-detector dogs to search buildings, personal property, inmates and visitors.
The CSC is heightening measures to prevent contraband from entering its institutions in order to help ensure a safe and secure environment for everyone.
