Following a public tip two homes in Amherst have been searched for drugs and several people have been arrested.
Police conducted surveillance on the first home on Duke Street before members of Cumberland Integrated Street Crime Enforcement Unit (SCEU) and Amherst Police Department arrested six people and then searched the home.
Inside, police seized quantities of marihuana and shatter were seized by police along with packaging materials, cash and cellular phones during the search.
An 18-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman, both of Amherst, are facing several charges as a result of the search, including:
- conspiracy to traffic in cannabis marihuana
- conspiracy to traffic in cannabis resin
- trafficking cannabis marihuana
- possession for the purpose of trafficking
- Possession of property obtained by crime
Both individuals were released from custody and are scheduled to appear in Amherst Provincial Court on Feb. 19, 2018.
The four other individuals were released without charges.
The second home, on Kent Drive, was also searched and police seized large quantities of marihuana, shatter, packaging materials, cash and cellular phones.
As a result of this search, an 18-year-old man from Amherst was arrested and later released from custody. He faces similar charges stemming from the Duke Street raid.
