PUGWASH, N.S. — Residents of the Village of Pugwash and surrounding areas are now able to connect to the Pugwash Water Supply.
Residents and businesses in and around the village previously relied on individual wells to supply drinking water. Many of these wells are contaminated, some contain dangerous metals including arsenic, lead and uranium making the water unsafe to drink.
This project, funded by the Municipality of Cumberland, the federal government and the province ensures the community has access to a clean and reliable supply of drinking water.
“The Municipality of Cumberland is proud to be supplying safe, potable water to the residents of Pugwash and area and we are pleased our Municipality has completed a project that makes such a difference in the daily lives of our residents,” Warden Allison Gillis said.
Justin Waugh-Cress, director of engineering and operations for Cumberland County thanked staff, consultants, and contractors on working diligently to reach the milestone and thanked residents for their patients.
Arrangements to make a connection from the water supply to a home or a business (also called a lateral connection or a curb stop connection) must be made by the homeowner or business owner with a private contractor.
Costs associated with connection are the responsibility of the homeowner or businessowner. Please visit www.cumberlandcounty.ns.ca for detailed information on connecting to the system. If people observe an emergency such as a water line break, call 902-597-3832.
