Police are investigating after a fire in a Halifax apartment building was deliberately set on New Year's Day.

According to a Halifax Regional Police news release, officers and Halifax Fire crews responded to a structure fire at the building in the 5500 block of Victoria Road at 4:23 p.m. 

The fire was quickly extinguished and while tenants did evacuate when the fire alarm sounded, they have since returned to their units.

No one was hurt,

"Fire Investigators confirmed the fire was intentionally set and the arson investigation has been turned over to police," the news release said. "The arson investigation is in the early stages and is ongoing."
