AMHERST, N.S. – A 42-year-old Oxford man was sentenced to five years in prison after pleading guilty to a charge of aggravated assault in Amherst provincial court on Oct. 16.
Richie John Leslie Pye was given the sentence to the lesser included charge of aggravated assault by stabbing and hitting his victim with a hammer. He had originally been charged with attempted murder.
Pye was also given six-month concurrent terms for breaching his probation by possessing weapon while prohibited and abstaining from the use of alcohol or other intoxicating substances.
With a credit for time served in custody leading up to his sentence, he will serve four years, 10 months and 27 days.
The incidents occurred Feb. 8, 2018 in Oxford.
