AMHERST, N.S. —  Cumberland North MLA, Elizabeth Smith-McCrossin is gathering business leaders and industry stakeholders together to plan for Cumberland’s future prosperity.

The meeting, called ‘Exceeding the Vision’ will take place in Amherst on Thursday, Aug. 15.

“It is my mission as MLA to promote sustainable economic growth for this region and throughout our province,'' said Smith-McCrossin. “To keep our young people at home, we must create jobs and grow our economy. I’m excited to get that conversation started now”.

Hosted in partnership with the Amherst Chamber of Commerce and local industry leaders, this non-partisan event will be an opportunity for business minds to come together to discuss specific strategies to inspire leadership within industries and bringing forth sustainable economic growth in Cumberland North and the surrounding regions.

The meeting will feature six regional panelists; Stephen Emmerson, President of Emmerson Packaging, Nick van Vulpen, dairy and beef business farmer, Ian Ripley, General Manager of Athol Forestry, Jennifer Matthews, Manager at Regulatory Atlantic Canada Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers, Shawn Connell, Director of Customer Solutions at Nova Scotia Power, and Kevin Toth, President of Fox Harbour Resort.

“In 2014, the Ivany Report called for the government and private sector to have a shared vision for change and renewal, and that’s exactly what this meeting is about,'' said Smith-McCrossin. “Together, we can create game changing strategies for success and growth that cannot be achieved separately across public, private and community sectors”.

The event is being held at the Business Innovation Centre, 5 Ratchford St., Amherst Nova Scotia on Thursday from 7:30 to 10 a.m. Tickets, which includes a hot breakfast, can be purchased for $25.00 by calling Ron Furlong, Amherst and Area Chamber of Commerce 902-667-8186 or by emailing [email protected]
