Minudie letters presented at Joggins Fossil Centre on Sunday

Joggins, N.S. – The Minudie Heritage Association (MHA) vast letters collection will be the subject of an illustrated presentation at the Joggins Fossil Centre on Sunday, April 28, starting at 2 p.m..

The letters, numbering in the thousands and dating from approximately 1850 to 2013 were bequeathed, along with the Amos Thomas Seaman House and its entire contents, to the MHA in 2015 by the estate of the late Ruth Symes.

Ms. Symes was a direct descendant of the Amos “King” Seaman family that lived in the house since its construction, in Minudie, in 1843.

  1. and the ancestors before her, saved letters sent among family members, friends and relatives, as well as to and from business associates, politicians, organizations and immigrants, for over 160 years.

Laurie Glenn Norris, the Joggins Fossil Institute’s Education and Outreach Manager, and volunteer with the MHA will present ‘Paper Remains: Letters from the Minudie Heritage Association Collection.’

She will provide an overview of the letters, read excerpts and share photographs of many of the letter writers.

This presentation is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
