Lockdown ends at Springhill Institution

['Almost all of the medium-security units inside Springhill Institution have been replaced over the last decade. Capable of housing 600 inmates, the current inmate population is under 400.']
The lockdown at the Springhill Institution has come to an end and normal operations have resumed at the medium-security prison.

SPRINGHILL – The lockdown put in place at Springhill Institution on March 9, 2018 has ended and an exceptional search has been completed.

The institution has resumed its normal operations.

Correctional Service Canada is strengthening measures to prevent the entry of contraband into its institutions in order to ensure a safe and secure environment for everyone. CSC also works in partnership with the police to take action against those who attempt to have contraband brought into correctional institutions.

Visits to the institution have resumed.
