SPRINGHILL – The stage is set for a big party with Kraft and TSN today in Springhill.

“To see the stage is awesome. I’m hyped. I’m excited,” said 13-year-old Jayden MacPhee, as he looked at the stage Tuesday morning.

MacPhee will see TSN sports anchors Jennifer Hedger and Nabil Karim, who will take to the stage tonight at 7 p.m.

MacPhee said he will spend all day at the site.

“It will be great to see the community out here supporting TSN,” he said.

The nomination letter to bring the Kraft/TSN Celebration Tour to Springhill was written by Mark Joseph.

He said having the day arrive is like a dream come true, and he hopes people from throughout the county make the trip to Springhill for the live broadcast of TSN SportsCentre and all the events surrounding the broadcast.

“This is a positive shot in the arm for the town of Springhill and hopefully we have good weather and everybody from throughout the county who can show up does show up and enjoys the day,” said Joseph, who is also a part of the organizing committee.

The head of the committee is Scott Munro, manager of Leisure Services for the Town of Springhill. He submitted Joseph’s letter to TSN.

We’ve been going non-stop it was announced July 1 that we are one of the towns on the tour,” said Munro. “We’ve had weekly calls with Kraft and TSN.”

As being one of the towns selected for the tour, Springhill won $25,000 to go towards upgrading sports facilities in Lions Park in Springhill.

“The priority is to get the ball field fixed. To get the drainage fixed,” said Joseph.

Springhill is in the running to win an additional $75,000, which could be used to upgrade the concrete pad in Lions Park.

“For the summer we’d like to have ball hockey, skateboarding, basketball, but it the winter we’d like to have outdoor skating and ice hockey that kids can use any time.

“It would be a shared facility people from throughout the county can use,” he added.

The schedule is as follows:

5-7 p.m. – Kraft Celebration kick off. Includes a Barbecue, prizes and activities.

7-8 p.m. SportsCentre is broadcast live.
