UPPER NAPPAN, N.S. – The 2018 Light the Way equipment campaign set a bold target, and they’ve almost met it.
“Our goal is to raise over $200,000 to buy a C-Arm, X-Ray machine,” said Gwen Kerr, managing director of the Cumberland Health Care Foundation. “It can be used during surgeries, so that’s one of its primary purposes, but it’s also used for examinations, pain clinics, and other applications, so it will have an impact on a lot of patients.”
Families recently visited the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre to help celebrate the start of the Christmas season with the annual Christmas Light the Way family night. The event also featured a visit from Santa Claus and his wife Mrs. Claus, live music, refreshments and treats.
Previous Light the Way campaigns have raised about $100,000.
“This piece of equipment is more expensive than we would normally choose but, knowing there was a great need for it, we thought this year we would do that,” said Kerr.
As of Nov. 28, they were about $40,000 shy of meeting their goal.
The campaign runs until Dec. 31, and Kerr thanks everybody who has made a donation.
“This community is absolutely amazing. We are so grateful to live here and to have people who care that much because this is everybody’s hospital,” said Kerr. “We all use a hospital at one time or another and this is a really good hospital. The people here are so good.
