SPRINGHILL, N.S. – As they’ve done for the past 25 years, elementary school kids gobbled up a free turkey dinner in Springhill.

“All of the students from both elementary schools come out for thanksgiving dinner, and students from the high school serve the food,” said Maryanne Jackson, county councillor for District 12. “It’s a wonderful community event. Everybody gets involved; parents, teachers, the high school and community members.”

Students from both Junction Road Elementary and West End Memorial Elementary schools, 320 in all, came out to enjoy the thanksgiving dinner.

“Cathy Fisher was a volunteer that started this 25 years ago but she retired from it a couple of years ago,” said Jackson.

Much of the food is donated, with extra funds provided by municipal grant funds from councilors Jackson and Doug Williams.
