Five people sentenced in Amherst court on Sept. 16 and 17

AMHERST, N.S. – Four people pleaded guilty to various crimes in Amherst provincial court on Sept. 16, and one person pleaded guilty on Sept. 17.

Burke sentenced for assaulting police officer

Jordan Kenneth Charles Burke, 26, of Baie-Verte, N.B., was sentenced in court on Sept. 16 to 30 days custody after pleading to actively resisting a police officer engaged in the execution of his duty.

Burke was sentenced to another 30 days custody, for a total of 60 days custody, after also pleading guilty to assaulting a peace officer engaged in the execution of his duty.

The incidents occurred Jan. 24, 2018, in Amherst.

Watson sentenced for committing assault

David Norma Ray Watson, 23, in federal custody in Springhill, was sentenced in court on Sept. 17 to 90 days custody, concurrent to any other sentence currently being served, after pleading guilty to committing assault on another person with a weapon, a sharpened piece of chain-link fence.

The incident occurred April 30, 2019, in Springhill.

Spicer sentenced for impaired driving

Kelly Marie Spicer, 32, of Baie-Verte, N.B., was sentenced in court on Sept. 16 to a $1,300 fine and a one-year driving prohibition after pleading guilty to operating a conveyance while their ability to operate it was impaired by alcohol, a drug, or both.

The incident occurred July 20, 2019, in Tidnish Bridge.

Embree sentenced for failing breathlyzer

Elizabeth Ann Embree, 50, of Junction Road Springhill, was sentenced in court on Sept. 16 to a $1,000 fine and a one-year driving prohibition after pleading guilty to having a blood alcohol concentration that exceeds .08 per cent two hours after ceasing to operate a conveyance.

The incident occurred June 8, 2019, in Springhill Junction.

Hirtle sentenced for threatening police officer

Cameron James Hirtle, 20, of Debert, was sentenced in court on Sept. 17 to a suspended sentence with 12 months probation after pleading guilty to failing without lawful excuse to comply with a condition not consume alcohol, and for knowingly uttering a threat to a police officer to cause death to the police officer.

The incidents occurred July 30, 2019, in Pugwash.
