AMHERST, N.S. — On a mission to inspire Canadians to get back to eating around the table together, President’s Choice® and the Atlantic Superstore is bringing back Eat Together Day on June 14.
A national survey by President’s Choice found that more than 50 per cent of Canadians eat more than two meals alone each day, but there is still a desire to spend more time at the table and #EatTogether.
Eating together has been proven to help people choose more nutritious meals, support early childhood development, and build stronger interpersonal relationships.
“We know that sharing meals is good for us in so many ways, and that it strengthens bonds between families, friends and communities,” said Jillian Reid, registered dietitian at the Amherst Superstore.
The new Canada’s Food Guide, released in January 2019, agrees food is an integral part of social interactions and celebrations, and that eating together can help to reinforce positive eating habits.
To date, over 500,000 Canadians have joined the Eat Together movement, pledging their commitment to eat together throughout 2019 with family and friends. You too can take the pledge at pc.ca/eattogether.
Join the movement on Eat Together Day, June 14, by attending a free barbecue at Atlantic Superstore in Amherst.
Join friends, store colleagues and neighbours for some great food, music and conversation! Or simply take time in the day on Friday to ask a friend, family member or member of the community to join you for a meal.
Share your #eattogether moment on social media and tag @preschoice.
Voluntary donations made at the Amherst barbecue will go to President’s Choice Children’s Charity to help fund local children’s nutrition programs.
