SPRINGHILL, N.S. – Dog show dogs are treated like royalty, and they don’t like to wait.

But they had to wait on May 19 at the Tantramar Kennel Club Dog Show in Springhill because of plane repairs in Montreal.

“The judges were stranded in Montreal because their plane broke down,” said Judi Richards, organizer of the Trantramar Kennel Club Dog Show. “They didn’t fly out until 8 a.m. They had to fly from Montreal to Halifax.”

The dog show judges, a husband and wife team from British Columbia, were scheduled to arrive in Moncton at On May 18 at 11:20 p.m. the night before the final day of the dog show, but due to the delay they didn’t leave Montreal until 8 a.m. on May 19.

The judges arrived at the Halifax airport at 10:20 a.m.,” said Richards. “And then they arrived at the arena at 12:45, and we didn’t get our show started until 12:55.”

A late start meant a late Sunday night for the finish of the dog show.

“The arena said we could stay open as long as we needed,” said Richards. “The Arena is amazing, and the exhibitors will tell you how wonderful the people are here at helping them.”

Despite the delay, Richards says the show went really well.

“We had 147 dogs, plus exhibitors from throughout the Maritimes, Quebec, Ontario and the U.S.,” said Richards. “And businesses in the area gave great prizes for the exhibitors, and we thank them very much for their contribution to the show.”
