UPPER NAPPAN, N.S. – Dogs at the L.A. Animal Shelter are beating the heat.

“Each dog has their own kiddie pool,” Geoff Drummond, manager at the L.A. Animal Shelter, said. “Some dogs stand in the pool, and some lay in the pool.”

On hot days, the dogs also get sprayed down with water every couple of hours.

There are 11 dogs at the shelter, and Drummond says they tend to take it easy on hot days.

“They’re not as active and some spend more time in their home and they eat less,” he said.

The 11 dogs, along with many of cats, are all looking for new, loving homes.

The shelter is open seven days a week.

“People can drop anytime between 1-4 p.m. to look at the animals,” said Drummond.

The shelter is located at 798 Smith Road, just south of Amherst.
