Diligent River honours its war veterans on Nov. 10

DILIGENT RIVER, N.S. — The 2019 Remembrance Day service was held on Sunday, Nov. 10 at the Diligent River Baptist Church.

It was organized by Gale Boland and conducted by Parrsboro Royal Canadian Legion member Al Couture.

Due to weather conditions, the following wreaths in memory of fallen comrades were laid inside the church.

Royal Canadian Legion Branch 45 placed by President Arthur Yorke.

Community of Diligent River placed by Eric McCully

Government of Canada placed by Al Couture

Province of Nova Scotia placed by legion member Ron MacLean

Municipality of Cumberland placed by Coun. Don Fletcher

Wreaths placed in memory of deceased veterans were as follows:

Clifford Allen, by Ronnie Allen; Clayton Graham, by Robert Graham; Harris Graham, by Harriet McWhirter; Richard and Derrick Lamb, by Nancy McPhee; Duncan and Max MacLeod, by Neil Erb; Garnet McLellan by Ruth Ann Terfry; Alex Salter and son Robert, by Eric Himelman; Alex and Robert Salter, by Everett Himelman; Ronald Smith, by Ron Forbes; Leo Tibbetts, by Matthew Allen, Austin, Carson and Hubert Yorke, by Leoda Varner; Basil and Lorway Yorke, by Earl Terfry.

The following wreaths were laid by family members at the Diligent River War Memorial on Nov. 11 in memory of Ronald Bowden, Kenneth Colpitts, Ronald Colpitts and William Manuge.
