Cumberland-Colchester-Musquodoboit Valley MP Scott Armstrong announces $42,500 in federal funding towards renovations at the Diligent River Community Hall.

DILIGENT RIVER – Life in this quiet village is getting a little livelier, with help from a government funding boost announced on Wednesday.

Cumberland-Colchester-Musquodoboit Valley MP Scott Armstrong told a gathering of community members at the hall that the federal government was committing $42,500 towards renovation of the building, which will include work on the foundation, electrical upgrades and plumbing and kitchen improvements.

“Our government is committed to creating jobs, growth and long-term prosperity in our communities,” said Armstrong. “By improving facilities like the Diligent River Community Hall, we are helping to boost economic activity and maintain a high quality of life for the residents of this rural community.”

The federal support will come from the government’s Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF), and will come on top of $30,000 being invested by the Municipality of Cumberland County through its grants to organizations, announced at the same event by Warden Keith Hunter. The community itself has raised more than $40,000 for the project in the past three years.

“Our community regularly depends on the availability of this facility for space to celebrate milestones and to come together as a community,” said Gale Boland, secretary/treasurer of the Diligent River Community Hall Association. “These upgrades will extend the life of the Diligent River Community Hall and ensure that our residents can continue to enjoy this facility for years to come.”
