OXFORD – Oxford is without its longtime chief administrative officer.
The Citizen-Record has learned the Town of Oxford has relieved Darrell White of his duties as its CAO.
No reason was given for the decision.
“I really have no statement,” Oxford Mayor Trish Stewart said in a Facebook message to the paper. “I cannot speak publicly about personnel matters.”
Stewart did confirm that White is no longer employed by the town and that Linda Cloney is the acting chief administrative officer until an interim CAO is put in place.
She did not give a timeline on when that would take place.
White also did not want to comment other than to say lawyer Jim O’Neil is representing him in this matter.
“Mr. O’Neil will be preparing a presentation for the town’s lawyer,” White said in message.
White has been a longtime employee of the town and took over as chief administrative officer when short-term CAO Michelle Wood resigned more than a decade ago.
While serving as CAO of Oxford, White was also an elected town councilor in nearby Springhill. He was elected in 2004 and again in 2012 after a four-year hiatus.
He was deputy mayor of the former mining community during the dissolution process when Springhill became part of the Municipality of Cumberland. He ran unsuccessfully for a seat on Cumberland municipal council during a 2015 by election to fill two seats from Springhill.
