PARRSBORO, N.S. – Safety concerns have led the Municipality of Cumberland to move its Parrsboro service centre to a new location.

The municipality announced Thursday the centre, that was the former home of Parrsboro town hall, is being moved to a temporary workspace on the same property at 4030 Eastern Ave. in mid-November.

“Safety of our staff and public is our top priority and was the determining factor in initiativing this relocation,” county CAO Rennie Bugley said.

The 160-year-old building has been home to the community’s municipal office since 1952. A recent fire inspection identified deficiencies that were cause for concern for its continued use by the municipality.

Cumberland County plans to arrange a third-party assessment of the building in the coming months. This assessment will provide the municipality the information on determining its future.

A committee of staff and community members was formed this fall to discuss the possibility of a multi-purpose facility in Parrsboro. A replacement for the service centre has been discussed as part of that proposed centre.

Any service disruptions relating to the relocation will be announced on the county’s website and through the media.
