AMHERST – Defending champion Sheila Christie came out on top for a second year in a row at the 2nd annual Chili Challenge Saturday afternoon at Dayle’s Grand Market in Amherst.

“It’s a lot of pressure because I had stiff competition and all of them are excellent,” said Christie, who, besides cooking great chili, is also the deputy mayor of Amherst.

Her competition was Elizabeth Smith-McCrossin, MLA for Cumberland North; county councillor Joe van Vulpen; Town of Oxford deputy mayor Tom Kay; and Hal Davison.

The winner was chosen by a vote. People tasted each chili, and then filled out a ballot for their favourite chili.

Christie said she will be back next year and will cook the same chili she served this year and last year.

“It’s a winning formulation so I’m going to keep with it.”

She thanked everybody who came out to sample the chili.

“’I’m glad everybody came out to enjoy all the Amherst Winter Carnival activities,” she said.
