A broken water filter canister led to the flood early Sunday, but the quick action of staff and physicians contained the water to an area near the second floor operating suites.
There was some minor damage to the laboratory collection and ambulatory care departments on the hospital’s first floor.
Cleanup began immediately and is ongoing. No patients had to be relocated as a result of the flood.
All surgical and endoscopy cases scheduled for Monday and Tuesday have been postponed and are being rebooked as soon as possible.
If additional surgical cancellations are necessary, patients will be contacted directly.
The emergency department and other services remain open. Hospitals in Moncton and Truro are on stand-by to accept any emergency surgery cases that may arise. Scheduled appointments and procedures in all other areas of the facility are proceeding as usual.
