AMHERST, N.S. — Amherst will be demolishing buildings at 196 Victoria St. East. beginning at 7 a.m. on Monday.
The demolition, which is expected to take two days to complete, is being carried out because the building has been deemed unsightly, unsafe and a hazard to the safety of the general public.
The town has pursued all legal options to remedy the situation prior to ordering the buildings’ demolition and obtained all necessary permits to carry it out.
People in the area of the demolition are advised to use caution as heavy machinery will be used to demolish the building.
East Victoria Street will remain open to traffic during the demolition. Lamy Street, between East Victoria and Durley streets, will be closed to through traffic, though local traffic will be permitted for residents of 194 Victoria St. East and 2 Lamy St.
The sidewalk in front of 196 Victoria St. East. will be closed to ensure pedestrian safety.
The detour around the demolition site will be East Victoria Street to North Adelaide Street to Harding Avenue to Lamy Street.
